Restaurants in Greece

Athens has 45 places, yet the Ionian islands together have slightly more. Corfu alone has over twenty, from Kavos and Moraitika in the south to Palaiokastritsa in the west, and further entries lie on Zakynthos, Lefkada, Kefalonia and Ithaca and along the Epirus coast at Parga and Igoumenitsa. Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, Patras and the Peloponnese are covered more thinly, and Crete, the Cyclades and Rhodes do not appear at all.

Half the places are gyros and souvlaki grills, from Lalas Ovelistirio in Tsoukalades on Lefkada to Grillfather in Parga, and cafés and pizzerias add about twenty each. Hours often run late: about a third of the places with known hours stay open past 1 AM, among them Nikos Kebab House in Kavos and Irene's House of Pizza on Spyridonos Trikoupi in Athens, both listing hours until 7 AM, and Il Grande Pizzeria in Ioannina, open until 4 or 5 AM. Athens also has Mirch, an Indian kitchen on Ermou, and σπιτάκι, a daytime snack shop whose reviews mention piroshki.
