409 places in 165 cities.
Two quite different pictures sit under this heading. In Istanbul, the 51 entries are restaurants, rooftop terraces and breakfast houses, most of them in the old town between Sirkeci and Küçük Ayasofya or across the Golden Horn in Beyoğlu. Several belong to hotels, like Roof Mezze 360 on top of the Seres Hotel; Old Ottoman Cafe & Restaurant and Seher Restaurant are among those whose reviews talk about testi kebab, cooked in a sealed clay pot; Dürümzade in Beyoğlu grills adana and liver wraps over charcoal and closes on Sundays; and Boris'in Yeri opens at 6:30 AM for kaymak with honey.
Outside Turkey the category is mostly döner and grill. Amsterdam has 47 entries, spread from the canal ring to Bos en Lommer, Slotermeer and Noord, among them the simit bakery Simit Paleis on Postjesweg and Effendy, a lahmacun café on Rozengracht. Munich's 31 entries are all kebab shops listing €1–10, Hamburg has five in Harburg alone, and in Rome and Lisbon many Turkish kebab shops also sell pizza.
