Fish & Seafood

This category brings together three quite different kinds of place. In Istanbul's old town, around Sultanahmet, Cankurtaran and Sirkeci, restaurants such as Fish Home near Ahırkapı, Rainbow Fish & Meat and Divella Bistro serve grilled fish alongside kebabs and meze, and several — Turk Art Terrace among them — have roof terraces with views of Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque; Balat Sahil on the Golden Horn is a meyhane for meze and rakı. In Britain the fish comes battered: London kebab shops that double as chippies, such as Kozan and Alanya, and Manchester takeaways like Pete's Chippy. The rest are small coastal and island places: fish sandwiches on Hiddensee, herring rolls in Gdańsk, tuna kebabs on Favignana, fish bars in Argostoli, Corfu and Ksamil, and a fish shop in Jūrkalne on the Latvian coast. Many of the coastal ones open only in the daytime or on some days of the week.
