Restaurants in Germany

Berlin, Stuttgart, Munich and Hamburg have 50 to 60 places each, Frankfurt 20. Almost all the rest lie in the north-east, in Stralsund, Greifswald and Neubrandenburg, on the islands of Rügen and Usedom, and in Brandenburg towns such as Eberswalde, Schwedt and Prenzlau. Cologne, Düsseldorf, Leipzig and Dresden are missing, and the Ruhr has a single shop in Dortmund.

Nearly every place is a döner shop, and reviews show local habits: yufka wraps come up at more than half the Stuttgart places, dürüm at most of Munich's. A few stand apart: Rüyam Gemüse Kebab in Schöneberg and Nefis Gemüse Kebap on Kottbusser Damm are Gemüse (vegetable) kebab shops, Vegi Stuttgart on Steinstraße is a small vegetarian place for falafel pitas, and at DEINER in Frankfurt the Belgian-style fries lead the reviews. In the north-east, four shop names say Drehspieß (rotating spit) instead of döner, three Asian snack bars carry döner in their names, and nearly everything closes by 10 PM, whereas Ilayda kebaphaus on Berlin's Schönhauser Allee lists 24-hour opening.
